| Supporting the troops in Iraq has been a heartfelt project of Comfrey Public School's 1st and 2nd graders this school year. Each class has adopted a local soldier and corresponds with them on a monthly basis. The 1st grade class has teamed with Justin Windschitl of New Ulm. Justin's grandmother, Ivona (Edwin) Windschitl of Comfrey, volunteers in the 1st and 2nd combination classroom. The second grade class has teamed with David Warner, son of Mark and Barb Warner of Comfrey. David was a 1st grade student of classroom teacher Jana Neid at the beginning of her 26 years in Comfrey. Neid is a resident of Sleepy Eye. The students recently sent care packages with letters, sunflower seeds, granola bars, fruit snacks, wet wipes and chapstick. Neid states, "The world and its geography has become very personal for a group of elementary students because of their interaction with some local heros!" |
