The CLIMB theater group visited Comfrey Public School on Wednesday, February 21, 2007. Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 attended the performance and the follow-up sessions that followed. CLIMB Theater was founded in 1975 for persons with disabilities to participate in drama classes that fostered the use of imagination and the exercise of creativity. In 1979 CLIMB expanded to serve all people, especially youth, and now performs primarily for students in elementary through high school. The teaching company uses drama/theatre tools and techniques to help students explore questions of social or academic relevance. The performance brought stories to life on stage for the Comfrey students. Students learned to explore differences between themselves and others, explored factors that create prejudice, and identified the similarities that each have with each other. This program was presented at no cost to Comfrey Public School. It was made possible by the Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi LLP Foundation for Education, Public Health and Social Justice. |

September 2006
| On Wednesday, September 13, the elementary children from Comfrey Public School joined the children at Butterfield for a production presented by CLIMB theater. The primary grades enjoyed THE GREAT TOOTH EXCHANGE. Money is what the Tooth Fairy wanted to give, but friends were what Brodi wanted instead. Negoitations resulted in loaning a couple elves to play with. While the three begin to interrelate, the audience learn new song and how to make and keep friends. The children enjoyed this funfilled play about friendship.
The upper elementary kids also enjoyed a play about friendship. The theme of Valentine's Day brought much discussion about giving and receiving. By the end of the production, kids had learned a lesson about the rules of making and keeping friends, empathy, and the difference between friendship and popularity. |
